The Marshaghai Police on Saturday arrested a person in connection with killing of the septuagenarian mother of an NRI on September 2, 2014. He was identified as Jaba alias Jabid Khan and Kalim Khan of Baleswar district’s Remuna PS, informed Marshaghai PS IIC Sukanta Kumar Patra.

According to police, Kalim Khan, Dukha alias Mirja Akbar Beig of Jajpur Road police station and Jitu Patra of Kisan Nagar police limits were involved in the crime. Mirja Akbar Beig, who is already arrested, is the kingpin of the murder.

Notably, one 76-year-old Swarnaprava Samantary had been found dead with her hands and legs tied in a room her house in Badapal village on September 2.

Police said Jaba has confessed to the crime. Mirja had invited him and his associates to commit a dacoity in the Badapal locality. Accordingly, they went to the village and found that the septuagenarian woman was staying alone in her house with gold and silver ornaments and hard cash as her lone son was away in America. She used to give opportunity to a person to sleep at her house every night for her safety.

Taking advantage of this, they hatched a plan and stayed at the rented thatched house of Swarnaprava by identifying themselves as saree hawkers. Subsequently, they managed to win trust of the woman. As her caretaker was absent on September 12014, the old woman asked them to sleep in her main building during night hour. Taking this opportunity, they looted her ornaments and cash and fled from the spot after killing her by suffocating her with a pillow. Jaba was later produced before the local court on Sunday, said Patra, the IIC.
