Tension prevailed in Katramahal village under the Baliapal police limits in Baleswar district when a person died and seven others were injured following a group class over a land dispute on Monday.

The injured were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

One Bhanu Charan Dalei of the village had illegally taken possession of a primary school land and wanted to construct a house of his own there. When he was going to the spot to start construction work, a group of locals opposed his act. This led to a scuffle when Dalei’s family members reached the place and threw chili powder and water at the locals. They also allegedly attacked the villagers with sharp weapons.

Eight persons sustained injuries in the clash and then taken to the DHH, where one Rama Chandra Giri succumbed to his injuries.

However, no police complaint had been lodged in connection with the incident till last reports came in.
