The Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) have initiated joint efforts to enhance families’ income by creating permanent assets in 211 selected Model Gram Panchayats under 150 high density blocks across 30 districts. Under two schemes, handholding support would be provided to the families living on farm and nonfarm activities to help them enhance their income.
In 211 Model GPs, the joint participation of the OLM and the MGNREGS has kept holistic development of villages as its sole aim by haring upon enhancement of earning of poor people. As a part of this recharge, pits would be dug in 151 GPs for effective disposal of liquid wastes in villages. Likewise, community nurseries would be established in 150 Mission Samruddhi GPs, 12 Centre of Excellence GPs and 84 organic clusters. It has been also planned to have deep dug wells in all of these 211 community nurseries being established. By this, the families’ dependant on farming will get their crops adequately irrigated while getting expected level of income.
