It’s so unfortunate that a heritage banyan tree at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar has become a victim of human activity, not by a Super Cyclone!
This nonagenarian tree at the Khandagiri Jatra Padia (opera ground) has been uprooted by bulldozers for the purpose of improvement, expansion of the Khandagiri Square Udayagiri-Khandagiri Hills cave road being undertaken jointly by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
Let the authorities take urgent action to transplant the tree at an alternative site, RK Mohanty, a local resident has urged.
