Challenging the refusal of the State Election Commission (SEC) to allow Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) to contest the forthcoming Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections with the ‘Kite’ symbol allotted to it by the Election Commission of India (ECI) recently, the party on Tuesday moved the Odisha High Court against the SEC’s decision. The party, in its writ petition, prayed to the court to direct the SEC to accord official status to its election symbol.
The SEC did not allow the Pyarimohan Mohapatra-led OJM to take part in the polls on the ground that the party made the application in this regard after the SEC issued the notification for the elections.
