The Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) has got ‘kite’ as its symbol to contest in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls on January 8 and the 2014 general elections following the party’s registration with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on April 9.
OJM president and Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra unveiled his party symbol ‘kite’ at a meeting at the party office here on Thursday after a motorcycle procession by party workers from the airport to Mohapatra’s residence.
Mohapatra said the OJM would help the youth and other people of the State touch the sky just like the party’s symbol ‘kite’. The party would not make false promises to the people unlike the BJD, he said, adding, “We will bring smiles on millions of faces.”
Though Mohapatra didn’t divulge any detail about fielding of candidates in all 67 seats of the BMC, he clarified that the OJM would contest the BMC polls prior to the general elections. A six-member election committee headed by former BMC Mayor and OJM vice-president Mihir Mohanty would finalise the candidates’ names and plan the campaign and other processes, he said.
He said the OJM has completed its Jan Adhikar Yatra in 92 Assembly constituencies. The campaign in the remaining constituencies would begin from Sunday. “like the Aam Admi Party, we will do the best in Odisha,” he said. The ECI has given ‘torchlight’ and ‘candle’ symbols to the Samruddha Odisha and the Koshal Kranti Morcha, respectively.
According to Samruddha Odisha general secretary Prabir Mohanty, his party would contest the coming Assembly and lok Sabha polls with the ‘torchlight’ symbol.
