OJEE or JEE: Decision depends on PPB view

Published on:

Technical Education and Training Minister Sanjay Dasburma has said a final decision on whether to conduct the OJEE or join the JEE (Main) for admissions into engineering courses in the State next academic year would be taken on the basis of the recommendations of the Policy Planning Board (PPB), which would meet on November 7.

Odisha joined the JEE (Main) in the current academic year. Seats in the engineering colleges were lying vacant after the counselling following the declaration of the national level test results. After the Supreme Court’s intervention, the State agreed to conduct the OJEE.However, many seats in the engineering colleges remained vacant as not many students turned up for the OJEE.

Confusion continues whether the State should go for the OJEE or the JEE (Main) next academic year.Meanwhile, the Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) has suggested the State Government adopt both JEE (Main) and OJEE.Educationists are of the opinion that the quality of engineering courses is in the decline in the State as students are discouraged to opt for the courses. The State has an abundance of engineering colleges.
