An oil theft racket is active here, which is stealing oil from the depot of the oil companies and also from the tankers carrying the oil.
These miscreants are involved in the stealing in broad daylight even as the security guards of the oil companies and police have been groping in the dark to nab them. They are selling the oil at a price less than the market prices and hence have many buyers.
Sources said the oil stolen from the HPCl, BPCl and IOCl depots is sold on the main road here where the customers are purchasing oil from vendors with plastic jars. However, the police have simply shut their eyes on the entire transactions.
