OHRC urged for action against Jajpur cop

The State BJP Mahila Morcha met the Odisha Human Rights Commission chairperson on misconduct shown to the Morcha’s president and a few social activists, leaders and villagers by Jajpur district’s Balichandrapur Police Station IIC and sought action against the unruly cop.

In a petition before the commission, the Morcha president Simantini Jena said IIC Balichandrapur Sarat Chandra Patra on October 26 last had misbehaved with a delegation led by Jena who had approached Patra for an amicable solution of a row over encroachment of public land used for Ganesh Puja and other local programmes by the villagers of Mahakalapada in Bharatpur Gram Panchayat under Badchana block.

The delegation had gone to meet the police officer after he did not accept FIR from local people lodged against the land grabbers. While IIC Patra had received FIR from the other section of the villagers, he refused to accept the FIR from the real sufferers, said Jena in the petition, adding Patra became furious and behaved in an uncivilized manner and shouted with louder voice.

Jena mentioned that the IIC appeared before the delegation members wearing a half pant, a T-shirt and was bare footed even as the meeting was scheduled before.
