The Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi for a probe into the alleged rape of a girl at the Government quarters of BJD MlA Govind Chandra Das in Bhubaneswar in 2015.
The commission asked the DCP to submit a report within four weeks and posted the matter for next hearing on January 17.
After receiving a petition on transfer from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the OHRC also asked the DCP to probe the allegations that the MlA is trying to suppress the matter using his position.
Angul-based Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain has moved the NHRC alleging that on July 12, 2015, a girl was from Baleswar district who had stayed in their local MlA Govind Chandra Das’ Government quarters in Bhubaneswar on that night was raped by the lawmaker’s driver.
“Though the victim has filed a complaint at the Kharavel Nagar police station but the MlA is trying to suppress the case,” the petitioner alleged.
The petitioner pleaded the NHRC to order a Crime Branch probe into the incident and compensation of `20 lakh to the victim.
