The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Southern Division RDC and the South-West Range DIG to inquire and report separately to it on the allegations of fake encounter in which a Dongria Kondh youth was killed by security forces in Rayagada district last month.
Human Rights activists Prabir Kumar Das and Biswapriya Kanungo have approached the commission in separate petitions seeking a thorough probe into the incident and order suitable compensation to the next of keen of the deceased youth.
Adjudicating the petitions and holding preliminary hearings on Thursday, OHRC Acting Chairman Justice BK Mishra has ordered both the RDC and DIG to submit their reports within four weeks. The commission has adjourned the matter to be heard again on April 26.
The case inter alia pertains to the claims made by the security forces on February 27 that a suspected Maoist, Monda Kadrika (20), was killed in an encounter in the Dangamatia forests.
But basing on the allegation of the victim’s brother Drika, the petitioners maintain that Monda was not a Maoist.
