Officials fail to shake anti-Posco forte

Due to the stiff opposition of the anti-Posco villagers and activists near Nuagaon, the district administration on Monday failed to enter Govindpur village to acquire lands for the proposed Posco project.

Sources said when the police forces along with Posco official SN Singh and IDCO's Sangram Mohapatra were proceeding to Govindapur village, nearly 2,000 people protested at the village border forcing them to return. Surprisingly the Jagatsinghpur District Collector and Superintendent of Police were not present on Monday.

While CPI leader Narayan Reddy led the protest, Arun Jena of Samajwadi Party, Nityananda Swain, Akshaya Sahoo, Manorama Khatua, Prakash Jena and Ranjan Swain were at the forefront.

later, a meeting was convened in Patana village, which was presided over by Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samity (PPSS) general secretary Sisir Mohapatra. The meeting was attended by PPSS leaders and various political parties. They warned the Government of dire consequences, if it does not refrain from forcible land acquisition.

"We will never allow the administration for forcible land acquisition. It will be our last battle and we will fight against the forcible land acquisition till our breathing," said an anti-Posco protestor.
