Over the past 15 years, while over 42 lakh job aspirants had registered their names in various employment exchanges across the State, only a negligible 44,000 got jobs. Presently 11 lakh aspirants are registered with the employment exchanges.

This was stated by Employment, Technical Education and Training Minister Sanjay Kumar Dasburma while answering a question of Dilip Ray in the Assembly on Saturday.

According to the Minister, there were 10, 04,330 job aspirants by the end of 1999 in the State. Between 2000 and 2015, a total of 32, 00,353 had got themselves  registered, while 44,100 were given employment. In 2000, there were a total of 1, 64,577 job aspirants, including 1, 29,102 males and 35,475 females, who had been registered for jobs. In 2014, 2, 27,768 job aspirants, including 1, 63,135 males and 64, 633 females, had registered their names in the employment exchanges.

By June last, a total of 84,215 unemployed youths, including 59,379 males and 24,836 females, got registered. However, in the last 15 years, females constitute only one-fourth of the total registered job aspirants, informed Dasburma.

As per the Minister, the registered unemployed youths who got jobs in any single year in the last 15 years were not even 1 per cent.  By June, while there are 10, 41,763 job aspirants who registered for jobs, only 1,126 got jobs, which is 0.108 per cent.

Roy expressed grave concern over the dismal scenario of unemployment in the State and the negligible number who could be given jobs in the last 15 years. Ray stated that instead of addressing the unemployment problem with strong measures, the Government abolished 44,197 posts while it did not fill about 1, 64, 000 vacant posts. Roy suggested that the Government should fill the vacant posts within three months and create enough of opportunity for self-employment.
