Odishi, Mohiniyattam enthral spectators

The open air auditorium here witnessed the inimitable dance recitals by artists in Odishi and Mohiniyattam on the third day of the Konark Festival.  Swapnarani Sinha of Guru Deba Prasad Das Gharana in Odishi and her disciples came up with 'Agni Stutee' dedicated to Agni Dev (the fire God), who is the priest of Gods.

The other choreography, Trivenee, neatly delineated the confluence of three sacred rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. With the musical composition of Pt Ramahari Das and choreographic touch of Swapnarani Sinha, the dancing damsels of Nrutya Nilaya presented the dance drama upholding the sanctity, purity and holiness of Indian rivers.

Odishi was followed by Mohiniyattam presenting soul-stirring choreographies of Jayaprabha Menon. The artistes from Delhi came up with Jayadev's Asthapadi "Chandana Charchita" from Sri Geeta Govindam. The recital Tatvam followed the Asthapadi celebrating the joy of life.

The concluding item was 'Sapthajeeva' the culminating presentation in the tradition of Mohiniyattam.
