The State Government has a plan to enhance the number of Revenue Division Commission zones from present three to seven. However, no timeline has been set for this proposal.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Bijayshree Routray said this in the State Assembly in reply to a question of Congress MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and supplementary questions of other MlAs, Chandra Sekhar Majhi (Congress), Dr Nrusingha Sahoo (BJD) and Ayub Khan (BJD).
While Bahinipati demanded formation of more RDCs, particularly one in undivided Koraput district in view much distance of Malkangri, Nuapada, Malkangiri and Umerkore from the Southern RDC office at Brahmapur, others too wanted to know when the Government was going to form other proposed RDCs.
In his reply, the Minister said, “The proposal for formation of a total of seven RDCs is under active consideration of the State Government. The Government will take a decision at the earliest.”
However, he said he can’t give timeline as to when the proposed RDCs would be formed.
The seven RCS have been planned to be set up at Cuttack, Puri, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Koraput, Brahmapur and Baripada. While existing Cuttack RDC will have six districts under it, Rourkela will have three, existing Sambalpur seven, Koraput four, Brahmapur three and Baripada will have three districts.
RDC zones had been reformed in 1957 for the last time on the basis of Orissa Revenue Divisional Commissioners Act, 1957, the Minister stated in the reply.
