Odisha to benefit from P'varam: Union Min

Though the State Government continues to oppose the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh, the Union Government came combative again stating that Odisha would also get benefit from the project.

“The multi-purpose Polavaram project will benefit both the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha,” Union Minister of State for Water Resources Sanjeev Balyan informed the Parliament in a written reply to a question of BJD MP Balabhadra Majhi.

Odisha would get 142 cubic metre of water and irrigation facilities for 30,000 hectares of land, informed the Minister.

The MP had wanted to know whether the Centre had done any study to know the losses to be suffered by Odisha due to the project to which it has accorded national status and announced to bear cost of its expenditure.
