A large number of Tamils, including women and children, residing in Odishaon Saturday staged a demonstration near Power House Square here demanding restoration of Jallikattu.
The protestors took out a rally holding placards of Jallikattu sports in hands and shouting slogans against the ban to the demonstration site.
They demanded an end to the ban imposed by the Supreme Court on the age-old sport, saying it symbolised Tamil culture and the ban reflected an anti-Tamil mindset.
“Jallikattu is a traditional sports being played in the State over centuries. In the name of cruelty, it can’t be banned altogether,” said a demonstrator.
“Tamil life is well connected with Jallikattu. It is not only a sports activity but also a part of our culture. As we live by culture, can we can’t remain away from it,” said another agitator.
