Odisha Speaker meets Guv for 30 minutes

Published on:

State Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari on Monday met Governor Dr SC Jamir apparently in response to the complaints made by Opposition Congress members on the functioning of the recent Monsoon Session of the State Assembly.

The meeting between the Governor and the Speaker lasted for about 30 minutes from 11 am to 11.30 am at the Raj Bhavan here. Though what transpired at the meeting was not known, sources said the Governor sought to know from the Speaker about the functioning of the 11-day session of the Assembly, which concluded on Saturday.

Notably, Congress members had complained to the Governor that they were not given due weightage and their voices were restricted in the House and the way the House was functioning was undemocratic and unconstitutional. They had also boycotted the House proceedings for the last two days on these allegations.

The Governor had asked Pujari to meet him on Monday. Sources said Dr Jamir gave some suggestions to the Speaker regarding the smooth functioning of the House. Repeated attempts to contact Pujari failed as his mobile number showed “switched off.”
