Odisha reels under intense cold wave

Intense cold wave conditions have thrown normal life out of gear in many parts of Odisha. The regional weather office has predicted that such conditions would prevail for the next two to three days.

“The northerly wind flow in the night is continuing till morning. The clear sky in Odisha is conducive for drop in the mercury. The interior and western parts of the State have recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. The temperatures in the coastal areas have also registered a drop by a few points,” Regional Meteorological Office Director Sarat Chandra Sahu said.

The model indicated that the temperature would plummet further, Sahu added.

Sundargarh registered a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and Bhubaneswar 12.6 degrees on Sunday, the weather office said.

The chilly accompanied with foggy conditions have been prevailing till 10-11 am, leaving people shivering in spine-chilling cold.

Of the 24 stations for which India Meteorological Department (IMD) collected daily temperature, 23 had recorded night temperature below 15 degree Celsius on Saturday which showed that the grip of the cold wave was uniform.
