The State has recorded about 22 per cent growth in software exports in 2012-13. In value terms, the State’s software exports reached Rs 1,970 crore from Rs 1,611 crore in 2011-12.
The exports by IT units, registered with the Software Technological Parks of India (STPI) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) stood at Rs 1,710 crore and Rs 260 crore, respectively. “With the expansion of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Mahindra Satyam (now Tech Mahindra) this year, we are expecting a similar growth rate in this fiscal,” said State IT Secretary Madhusudan Padhi.
And the State Government is aiming high, setting its sight on generating revenue of Rs 24,000 crore from the information communication technology (ICT) sector in next seven years to position itself along with Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It targets to attract top 10 IT/ITES and top five electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) companies to the State by 2020 while raising its total ICT revenue, which includes exports of software, IT services, domestic consumption and training, to Rs 24,000 crore. One of the major objectives is to create more infrastructure and built-up space for the IT companies. The policy looks at creation of 60 lakh sqft built-up space and a 2,000-acre land bank for the IT/ITES/electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector.
