Odisha politicos hail Telangana encounter deaths

Published on:

Odisha politicians cutting across party lines hailed the action of Telangana police in killing four accused in an encounter at 3 am on Friday while investigating into the rape and murder case of the veterinarian in Hyderabad.

Congress leader Suresh Rourtrays congratulated the policemen for neutralising the accused criminals in the encounter.

“Those who are raping women should be killed in encounters so that it would act as a deterrent for such people. Almost every day women are being raped in Odisha. I urge Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to use such strategy to eliminate rapists,” Routray said.

Law Minister Pratap Jena said, “I don’t know what the Human Rights Commission or other orgnaisations will say (about the Telangana encounter), but stern action should be taken against the rapists. In several countries, rapists are being shot dead or decapitated in full public view. In India too, we should have stringent punishment for such culprits. In my view, the Hyderabad police action was apt and the accused have been punished.”

BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty said the Telangana police deserve applause. They have acted within Constitutional framework.

Notably, there were celebrations across the country after it was reported that the Telangana police killed the rape and murder accused. People burnt crackers, distributed sweets and even showered flowers on policemen at the encounter site chanting ‘Jai Police’ and ‘Hyderabad Police Zindabad’.
