Odisha legislative Council soon on Telangana line

Published on:

The Odisha Government is likely to pass a resolution in the State Assembly in the lines of Telangana to constitute and run a legislative Council in the State.

Transport Minister and Chairman of Special Committee Nrusingha Sahu said on Wednesday that the committee was formed to study feasibility of forming a legislative Council in Odisha in lines of those in some other States.

He said the committee particularly studied the formation of the legislative Council in Telangana and held discussions with its Chairman and other officials.

“They (Telangana Government) created the Vidhan Sabha and then passed a resolution to form a Vidhan Parishad.

We studied their resolution and the details on how it was passed in the House.

A similar resolution can be brought for a legislative Council in Odisha. We will submit a report to the Government soon,” Sahu told mediapersons.

The committee comprising Nrusingha Sahu and MlAs Manohar Randhari and Pramila Mallick recently returned from Bihar and Telangana after conducting on-the-spot studies about their legislative Councils.

Sources said the proposed legislative Council in Odisha is likely to have 49 members.
