The All Odisha lawyers’ Association on Tuesday announced its support for the Mahanadi Banchao Andolan in its movement to save the river in the interest of people of the State.
The movement carried out by the Andolan to fight against the threats to Mahanadi river would be further strengthened, said lawyers’ association president Gyanaranjan Mohanty, secretary Bibhuprasad Tripathy, Mahanadi Banchao Andolan convenor Sudarshan Das and joint convenor BasudevBhatt in a joint press conference here.
The Mahanadi Banchao Andolan besides intensifying the people’s movement is fighting legal battles for saving the Mahandi. The lawyers’ body announced help and cooperation to the Andolan to fight the legal battles. The Mahanadi Banchao Andolan will organise a State-level intellectuals’ meet on May 29 to rope in people of the State in its efforts to save the river, which is the lifeline of Odisha. Intellectuals, artists, writers and painters will be invited. People have been requested to make the meet a success. Mahanadi Banchao Andolan advisor lalit Mohan Patnaik, Bijay Pradhan, Manoj Jena, Nirod Khuntia, Prabhasini Rout, Dilip Sabat and Ashok Paikray and others have thanked the All Odisha lawyers’ Association for their support.
