The Odisha legislative Assembly on Thursday issued a notification for the by-election for a lone Rajya Sabha seat, which has fallen vacant following the death of BJD MP Kalpataru Das, whose term would have ended on April 2, 2020.
As per the notification, the filing of nominations process began on Thursday and the last date for filing nominations is December 3. While verification of the nomination is on December 4, the last date of withdrawal of nominations is December 7. The polling and counting of votes will be held on December 14.
One of BJD general secretaries, Narendra Kumar Swain, was the only aspiring candidate who took a set of nomination papers from the Assembly Secretariat on Thursday.
Swain told reporters that since he has applied for nomination to the Rajya Sabha to party president Naveen Patnaik, he procured the papers. Notably, the ruling BJD is set to win the RS seat considering its strength in the Assembly.
