Operations in the public-sector banks in the State are likely to be affected as the All Odisha Bank Employees’ Federation (AOBEF) on Sunday decided to extended its support to the two-day nationwide strike from Monday to press for wage revision.

“We have decided to participate in the two-day nation-wide strike from Monday in protest against the Union Government’s so called reformative measures in banking sectors,” said AOBEF president Jagdish Jena. There are 27 public sector banks in the country with employees strength of about 8 lakh. There are about 50,000 branches of these banks across the country, said Jena. Jena stated that during the conciliation meeting held on February 6 before the Chief labour Commissioner, nothing tangible has happened as yet. Hence, as conciliation proceedings remained inconclusive, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has decided to go on two day nation-wide from February 10 and we will join the agitation, added Jena. Jena also stated that customers of public sectors bank in the State were informed in advance about the likely inconvenience they could face due to the strike.
