Odisha Assembly stalled for 6th day

The State Assembly on Saturday ran just for four minutes as Congress and BJP members stormed into the Well of the House time and again demanding replies from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to all questions asked by leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra vis-à-vis the source of Rs8 crore deposited in the ruling BJD’s bank account in a single day.

The Opposition members too reiterated their demands for ouster of chit fund probe panel head Justice Madan Mohan Das for making a contentious statement vis-à-vis chit fund investors’ interest and resignation of the Chief Minister for his silence over the alleged involvement of his party leaders, particularly over Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma allegedly taking Pajero SUVs from the tainted Artha Tatwa chit fund company.

BJP members wore black gowns each time they protested in the House.

Amid the ruckus, Speaker Niranjan Pujari invited leader of Opposition Mishra and others to an all-party meeting prescheduled to be held at 11.30 in his chamber and adjourned the House at 10.32 am till 12.30 pm.

While two all-party meetings were held, no solution regarding smooth conduct of the House could be arrived at. The leader of Opposition didn’t join the meetings.

Pujari adjourned the House at least three times till 4 pm as the situation remained unaltered.

When the House reassembled, the Speaker announced that the House would remain closed on Monday for Akshaya Tritiya, which was not scheduled as a holiday for the current Assembly session.

The Speaker then invited the leaders to an all-party meeting to be held again at 9.30 am on Tuesday and adjourned the House at 4.02 pm till Tuesday morning.

Earlier, the Speaker had called a Business Advisory Committee meeting to decide on businesses to be taken up on Tuesday.
