The road communication between Koraput and neighbouring areas of Andhra Pradesh, disrupted due to blocking of NH-26 by uprooted trees during the Cyclone Hudhud, has been restored, said Koraput district Collector Yamini Sarangi on Tuesday.
The Collector said around 100 personnel of ODRAF and NDRF and 10 teams of woodcutters were pressed into service to clear the main road connecting Salur in Andhra Pradesh with Sunki in Odisha.
District officials informed that huge trees had been uprooted at more than 50 places along the 40-km highway by strong winds after the Hudhud hit the coast near Visakhapatnam on Sunday. With bus and train services suspended for the second consecutive day, passengers in Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri had a harrowing time. Many passengers were stranded. Meanwhile, an OSRTC official informed that the bus services would resume very shortly.
