Labour Department officials on Monday rescued seven Odia labourers of the Nilgiri area from Nagaland where they were working in hostile conditions without wages.
The rescued victim labourers said that one Ranjan Jena of Kendrapada had send them to Nagaland on the pretext of providing jobs in different plywood companies in Kolkata with handsome salary.
After reaching Nagaland the labourers were being forced to work 12-15 hours per day by their employers and being beaten up for any type of complaint, informed a labour official. The Nilgiri Labour officials came into action on the complaints of the victims’ family members.
The rescued labourers have been kept at Nilgiri Labour Office for the time being and an investigation was underway.
