An Odia jawan was martyred during an encounter between militants and security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir on the Republic Day.
The deceased was identified as Hemanta Panda of Atharanga village under Begunia block in Khordha district. Panda had joined the Indian Army two years ago. The mortal remains of Panda is expected to reach his native village on Sunday.
A pall of gloom has descended on martyr’s village soon after his death. Earlier in the day, two militants of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police sources said.
Both were killed in Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar city. They had planned to disrupt the Republic Day functions being held here, the sources said.
