The Odia film industry now will get national recognition with the Vivel Filmfare Awards-2013 making its debut in the East to celebrate the artistic and cinematic excellence in Odia films along with Bengali and Assamese films.
The awards will be given in four categories, best film, best director, best actor and best actress, to Odia and Assamese films whereas the Bengali movies will get the national awards in 21 categories. The award show will be held on March 29 in Kolkata.
The iconic Black lady trophy was unveiled on the occasion here on Tuesday evening in the presence of Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty along with ITC Marketing head Nilanjan Mukherjee and Filmfare Magazine editor Jitesh Pillaai.
Jitesh Pillaai said Odia cinema has taken brisk steps of growth over the years. The releases now are a healthy and eclectic mix of commercial as well as art cinema. “By honouring the best of Odia films at Filmfare from 2013, we aspire to show that Odia cinema is an essential part of cinema in the East,” added Pallai.
