Odia filmmaker’s ‘Teen Adhyay’ chosen for IFFI

‘Teen Adhyay’, a film directed by Subash Sahoo, a Mumbai-based Odia filmmaker, has been chosen by the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for the Indian Panorama section to be screened during the IFFI’s upcoming 52nd edition of International Film Festival in Goa.

A Hindi film, ‘Teen Adhyay’ has found place in a list of 20 non-feature films to be shown during the festival scheduled from November 20 to 28.

The primary aim of the Indian Panorama is to select feature and non-feature films of cinematic, thematic and aesthetic excellence for the promotion of film art through the non-profit screening of the best Indian films of the year under different categories.

Conceptualised and shot in Mumbai during the nationwide lockdown in the wake of Covid-19, the film seeks to deal with three aspects of life, ‘Vipatti’ (calamity), ‘Utpati’ (genesis) and ‘Chakra’ (continuity) because together they symbolise the ancient Indian philosophy of existence and its deeper meaning, Sahoo said.

The film, produced by his wife Suprava Sahoo, was selected from a diverse pool of 203 contemporary Indian non-feature films.

“I was inspired to make the film when I found a crow trying to make a nest outside the window of my home even as the world outside screeched to a halt,” Subash Sahoo said, adding that the film also attempts to deal with the connect between individuals across species.

Sahoo, a national award winning sound designer, had worked in several films including Tumhari Sulu (2017), Neerja (2016), NH10 (2015) and Kaminey (2009). An electronics engineer, he graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India and has been involved with the Mumbai film industry for over 24 years.

The filmmaker hails from Araji village under Baluria panchayat in Kendrapada district.
