The Chirkunda police of Jharkhand has launched a drive in Bhubaneswar to nab Odia businessman Prabhat Mallick in connection with a land fraud case.

According to reports, Mallick had made a deal with Dhanbad entrepreneur Quazi Shakeel Akhta to sell his nine acres of land at Gurgaon in Haryana. The land owned by Mallick and his wife Namita was finalised for sale to Akhta at a cost of Rs 2.82 crore. Mallick had reportedly taken Rs 2.49 crore in advance from Akhta but sold the land to another businessman at Rs 5 crore. After knowing this, Akhta lodged a complaint with the Chirkunda police near his locality. The Dhanbad Chief Judicial Magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Mallick in the case registered by the local police.

To arrest Mallick, a two-member police team of Sub-Inspectors Sanjay Singh and Rameswar Singh came to Bhubaneswar three days ago. The team along with the Nayapalli police on Thursday conducted raids in different places of the city to nab Mallick, sources said. On the other hand, Mallick addressing the Press here on Friday, rubbished the allegation and termed the case as baseless. He said a court case in the matter is pending in Gurgaon and the complainant lodged a case against him before a verdict has been announced.
