Odia bodies hold language meet in Kolkata

Published on:

For the apathetic attitude of the State Government, political parties and intellectuals, the Odia language is now in an awful condition, said Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani president and BJD MP Baishnab Charan Parida in Kolkata, while inaugurating a Bhasa Surksha Sammilani on Sunday.

Various Odia organisations in West Bengal held the Bhasa Surksha Sammilani at the Rotary Sadan in Kolkata.

While affirming that the struggle to maintain sanctity of Odia would continue, Parida said a branch of the Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani would be established in Kolkata soon.

Parida also said while other States are using their mother tongue as official languages, Odisha people are using English.

Sharing his connection with West Bengal, Parida said Odisha has a lot of contribution to the development of West Bengal’s industries, business and commerce. But, the West Bengal Government has not given enough attention to the development and protection of Odisha’s education and culture. “I have discussed with the Government and political people in this regard. The Odisha Government should have a discussion with the West Bengal Government also,” Parida asserted. West Bengal Police DG Durgaprasad Tarinia, Srikant Panda, Krushna Chandra Bhuyan and Partha Sengupta also spoke on the occasion.
