The Congress on Thursday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik why the OBCs are being neglected and step-motherly treatment is being meted out to them.
At a Press conference here, PCC media cell chairman Ganeswar Behera posed some posers to the BJP and asked why caste-based enumeration is being opposed by the party. In 2010, during the tenure of the UPA Government, the BJP was demanding for caste-based census, he reminded.
In the Parliament also, the BJP members have said the Prime Minister also wants caste-based enumeration to be conducted. Despite all this, why the Central Government is backtracking on the issue now, Behera questioned. He said the OBCs don’t figure in the agenda of the BJP.
Questioning the State Government sincerity on the issue, Behera asked why 50-per cent reservation for OBCs during admissions in the educational sector hasn’t been implemented in the State.
He dared the Odisha Government to bring an ordinance for holding a caste-based census in the forthcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly.
