Nursing students stage demo in capital

Upping their ante against their Principal Kajal Rani Sinha, the agitating students of the SCB Hospital’s Nursing School on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the State Assembly demanding resignation of the Principal and lifting of sine die in the school.

Alleging that neither the police nor the Cuttack district administration ensures justice to them, the students took out a march in the State capital shouting slogans against the Principal and highlighting their problems. later, a delegation of the students met Health and Family Welfare Secretary Arti Ahuja and submitted a memorandum to her appealing to her to lift the sine die order and removal of Sinha from the helm of school affairs. The animosity between the students and the Principal of the Nursing School widened further last week as the Government basing on a report of a team headed by the Health and Family Welfare Department Additional Secretary closed the school for an indefinite period in a hurried manner without giving conciliation a chance.

“Despite taking proactive measures to sort out our problems, the Government closed the school for an indefinite period. This is illegal. We will continue our strike till we get justice,” said a protestor.

Though the students had filed a written complaint against the Principal at the local Mangalabag police accusing her of harassing them physically and mentally, the police are yet to act.
