Nurses withdraw stir after MlAs' assurance

Published on:

The Odisha Nursing Employees’ Association on Monday withdrew its cease-work agitation hours after launching it following assurance by Cuttack Barabati MlA Debashis Samantaray and Cuttack Choudwar MlA Pravat Biswal to apprise the Government of the nurses’ demands.

The association called off the stir after the two legislators promised to apprise the Health Minister of their demands, informed association secretary Prabhati Mohanty.

A meeting was held between the two MlAs and representatives of the association at the office of Superintendent of the SCB Medical College Hospital here.

Earlier in the day, as many as 5,600 nurses from across the state had joined the agitation, due to which health services at all the District Headquarters Hospitals and State-run medical colleges were affected for a while. The association’s demands include regularisation of Staff Nurses working under the National Health Mission and those who have completed six years in service and a hike in the basic pay from Rs5,200 to Rs9,300 along with a grade pay of Rs4,200.
