The Commissionerate police on Wednesday arrested the boyfriend of nurse Haseena Das, who had been found slain in her rented house at Kanan Vihar here under the Chandrasekhar police station on September 25.
The police said the accused identified as Pradyumna Parida was arrested and is being interrogated. Haseena, who hailed from Ersama in Jagatsinghpur district, was working as a nurse in a private hospital in the city.
The accused and the victim used to work together in the Kalinga Hospital and had a relationship. later, they switched jobs and Haseena was working as a nurse in a private nursing home. However, after Haseena came to know that Pradyumna was married, she maintained a distance from him. But on the fateful day when Haseena’s roommate had gone home, Pradyumna came to her residence and insisted to keep the relationship with her, the police said.When Haseena did not agree, Pradyumna slit her throat with a kitchen knife.
To ensure that she had died, Pradyumna smothered her with a pillow.
This has been ascertained from the deceased’s postmortem report, said the police.
Initial reports had also claimed that Haseena’s neck bore deep cuts inflicted by a sharp weapon and it was suspected she had died of those wounds.Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said police ascertained that Pradyumna was involved in the incident after going through the call records of the deceased. During investigations, Pradyumna’s mobile location was found to be at the crime scene.
