Frustrated over a longstanding family dispute a 35-year-old man stabbed to death his wife, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), in a school premises under Niali block of Cuttack district on Wednesday morning. The woman was on duty and had gone to the school to conduct an immunisation programme for pregnant women.

Ashok Sahu, who had been released on bail recently, had gone to the Mahura Primary School under the Cuttack Sadar police station to meet his estranged wife Priti Pradhan (32) to discuss their pending divorce case. The couple has a five-year-old son.

“In a separate room, while both were having a heated exchange of words, Ashok suddenly pulled out a knife from his waist and stabbed Priti, who died on the spot,” police said.

Locals had overpowered Ashok and handed him to police and he was arrested. He had earlier been arrested for making an attempt to kill Priti.
