Nude woman's body not seized by D'nal cops

An unclaimed nude body of a woman, which was not seized either by the local police or the Railway police for long five days with the one shifting responsibility on the other, finally was feasted upon by stray dogs, jackals and vultures here.

When dictated, the Dhenkanal Sadar police did not seize it claiming that it came under the jurisdiction of the Railway police. The Railway police too did not seize it saying that it was not their duty.

Sources said the body was found between Shyamacharanpur passenger halt and Joranda station on August 5 morning. The body presumably within the age of 25 to 30 years was wearing a Mangalasutra in neck. There was a red saree near it.

The local people had informed the Govindpur Police outpost in-charge about the body, but significantly the police there denied seizing it on the ground that the place where the body was lying belongs to Railway police limits. The Railway police were informed about the body but they paid a deaf ear.

They claimed that the place was 25 meter away from the railway track and a water pool and bush where the body was found belong to Sadar Police limits. As the body lay there for days together, its Mangalsutra and Saree were stolen and the stray dogs and vultures feasted on it.
