The family members of a migrant labourer of Nuapada district, whose body was found in the premises of a temple at Berana under the Bhandaripohari police station in Bhadrak district on Friday, and other villagers staged a road blockade on Saturday demanding compensation and arrest of the culprits.
Police recovered the body of Dulal Singh Majhi, a migrant labourer of Silada village in Nuapada district, who was working at a brick kiln at Berana. His body was found in the Subarnamukhi temple premises in the village.
Police also seized a scythe found near the body, which bore injury marks in the neck. The police later seized the body and sent it to the family members after post mortem. The family did not receive the body while the villagers staged the road blockade by keeping the body on the road. Alleging that Dulal was killed following an altercation with the broker, the villagers demanded immediate arrest of the killers. They also alleged that the assailants sacrificed Dulal as his body was found inside the temple premises.
“The wife of the deceased has a child while she expects another child. The district administration should take steps to ensure the future of her family with adequate compensation and give justice to her by bringing the culprits to book,” said a Nuapada activist, Rudra Patnaik.
