Nuapada DM assures road to hilly villagers

Published on:
District Collector of Nuapada Jaykumar V visited a remote village of Khariar block along with officials of the Block, ICDS, RWSS and Forest departments on Sunday to delineate a plan of action in participation with the locals for the development of the village. The village Samad Padar is located on a hill is without a road. There are about 80 households in the village, who lead a very miserable life as there is no road, electricity and potable drinking water facility.
“We have been requesting everyone, including the politicians and the Government, for a road, but they have turned a deaf ear to our request,” said the villagers, adding, “let us see whether the visit of the Collector will bring any change.” The villagers, both men and women, sat with the Collector to discuss about their problems. Interestingly, in spite of the remoteness, almost all the deserving people of the village have been covered by social benefit programmes, like pension and family benefit schemes, nutrition programmes and PDS. More than half of the villagers and more importantly women have bank accounts. “We don’t have any complaint on these programmes; the only problem we face is difficulty in transportation,” said the women.
The villagers explained how they are facing difficulty in transporting construction materials like sand, iron and cement for construction of their houses under IAY. The Collector said that a road would be constructed to the hill and assured to take step for providing electricity.  A Village Development Committee (VDC) in the village was immediately formed to take up the responsibility of road construction work.
“The fund for the road work would be placed to the VDC and it would be the responsibility of the villagers to do the work,” said the Collector to the people.
Khariar BDO NC Naik, ADWO Akshya Kumar Padhi, SEO Duryodhan Bisi, Assistant Engineer Jayapuria, Child Development Project Officer Mankumari lombo, SDPO Santanu Kumar Dash and Assistant Conservator of Forest Nityanand Naik among others accompanied the Collector
