The 3,000-MW NTPC-Kaniha thermal power plant has reached "Super Critical Condition" due to acute shortage of coal. With only one day’s coal stock at the pick hour, the plant authorities would be compelled to shut down many units.
This would severely affect power supply to Odisha and 17 southern, eastern and north east States.
The NTPC-Kaniha, the second largest power plant in India, is continuing to be hit by short supply of coal from the MCl Kaniha coalmine.
The NTPC-Kaniha plant has been getting less than 2,000 tonnes of coal for last one month from the MCl Kaniha coalmine daily instead of 35,000 tonnes due to a strike.
The stock has reduced to a record low to 40,000 tonnes, which could not meet any emergency situation.
