More than a hundred villagers of Mundiasahi of Kakudia gram panchayat under Narsinghpur block are reeling under acute drinking water scarcity during this summer.
As the village is located on a hillock, the water level goes deeper and dry and the only bore well is out of order. Besides, the water pipe connected to the village is not supplying water since long.
“The villagers depend upon a well at the foothill for drinking water, from where they fetch mud-mixed contaminated water. By filtering it through clothes and boiling, they use it for drinking purpose,” said Subash Behera, a local.
Even though they have repeatedly appealed to the Junior Engineer of the PH Division to solve the water woe, the latter is yet to take any step in this regard, said another villager.
Similar is the situation for villagers of Bhagabatsahi. The villagers alleged that while the only bore well at the village is lying defunct for the last three weeks, the concerned authority is yet to repair it.
Besides, the water pipes and stand-posts connected to the village have broken at several points, for which water supply has been stopped for the last one month. The villagers demand that the concerned authority look into the matter seriously and take immediate steps to resolve the crisis on a war footing.
