Cuttak district’s Narasinghapur Block Education Officer (BEO) Bishwajit Ghosh on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to Nijigarh Girls’ Primary School Headmaster Dhirendra Kumar Mishra for engaging children in carrying chairs from the school to a tent house. The BEO has asked the Headmaster to submit a reply within 15 days.
Notably, a news report in this regard had been published in The Pioneer on October 21. As per the report, the school authorities had asked children to return chairs to a tent house in Paikapada Patna, 700 metre from the school. Accordingly, children carried two to four chairs each on their heads on the crowded road to the tent house while no teacher or other school staff was guiding them. Parents had also raised objections to this act of the school.
Following this report, the issue became a matter of discussion in the localities.
Meanwhile, parents have also expressed dissatisfaction that issuance of a mere notice seeking clarification would not serve any purpose. “The Headmaster is trying to suppress the matter,” they alleged.
They demanded that the Cuttack district Collector, State Child Development Department and Mass Education Secretary should intervene into the matter soon and take string actions.
