National Security Guards (NSG) officers and Commandos conducted mock drills in Bhubaneswar for the last three days aimed at countering any future terrorist attack on any vital and sensitive installations in the State.

The Special Operations Group (SOG), Special Tactical Unit (STU) and Commissionrate police also participated in the joint exercise. The exercise was conducted in night in some vital Government and non- Government establishments, informed DGP KB Singh.

The mock drill was carried out in the Infosys campus, Hotel Mayfair and                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    the State Secretariat premises from July 11 to 13.

DGP Singh said that so far there is no threat of terrorist attack on any part of the State. But it is routine preparedness for any unfortunate incident in future. The people of the State must not take it otherwise or panic on this joint exercise. He also clarified that the exercise has no links with the attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.

In order to counter terrorists, the NSG normally undertakes such type of exercise in different parts of the country as per the direction of Ministry of Home Affairs.

This joint exercise was named as Counter Terrorist City Exercise. As per the DGP’s direction, senior State police officers like Director Intelligence Sunil Roy, Twin City Police Commissioner YB Khurania, IGP (Operation) RP Koche, city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi and SOG Commandant Anup Krishna closely monitored this exercise.

Such kind of joint exercise is not new to the State. It was conducted earlier at Puri and Chandipur also in the same way. Such joint exercises would definitely go a long way in strengthening the Odisha police in a very big way, added DGP Singh.
