The Ashram School of Nehena village under Khariar block bagged the first prize in group dance in the “Sargiphula” annual cultural competition.

The event along with a science exhibition of tribal schools in the district under the SC/ST development department was organised in Belgaon Sebashram of Komna block on Friday. About 1,750 students from 45 schools participated in the programme. Essay, debate and dance competitions were organised and the winners were given prizes.

The students of the Ashram School of Nehena also won nine other prizes in creative writing, essay, debate and music competitions.

“The children reading here belong to remote villages of Kalahandi and Nuapada districts. Most of them belong to poor ST and SC families but they are talented and have proved what they are up to,” said headmistress Jharamani.

A SMC member of the school Motilal Bag said, “Our children have been selected for the State level competition and we hope their performance will be much better there.”
