The ASHAs of Nuapada district boycotted work for a day supporting the strike call of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

About 100 ASHAs of Khariar block conducted a meeting in the Krushak Bhawan at Khariar and decided their further plan of action. “We have our own demands. The Government has not fixed our salary although we are working day in day out. The administration is not even providing our incentives in time. We oppose this injustice and thus support the strike,” said the ASHAs, adding, “We have given September 27 as the date line and if the Government did not respond positively, we would conduct rally and demonstration on September 28.”

The ASHAs also condemned the behaviours shown to them by the staff nurses in the hospitals. “We are behaved like servants,” they said. They also said that, the nurses and doctors make them responsible as instigators, if a patient complains of negligence or corruption in the hospital.
