Pradesh Congress Committee president Jayadev Jena on Saturday demanded that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announce a CBI inquiry into the mega chit fund scams in the State without thinking of any way out after the refusal of the Odisha High Court to nominate a sitting judge for a judicial probe.
Jena said that the Chief Minister had tried tactfully to divert public attention from the chit fund scams by organising his BJD’s Swabhiman Samabesh in New Delhi on the plea of Special Category status for the State.
“All the plans to suppress the chit fund scams in which many BJD leaders are involved have failed, and now the High Court has declined to depute a sitting judge for inquiry as per the guideline of the Supreme Court,” he added.
So, it is high time the Chief Minister handed over the chit fund scams for inquiry by the CBI and returned the money to the innocent depositors by forfeiting the properties of the different chit fund owners, Jena asserted.
