Now, diarrhoea scare grips Ganjam

Published on:

While diarrhoea claimed the life of a five-year-old at Brahmanachai village under Sheragada block in Ganjam district, ten others are reportedly afflicted with the disease in the cyclone and flood-affected area in the district.

Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) lK Rath told reporters that the parents of the deceased boy did not take him to the mobile health unit present in the area and instead relied on medicines prescribed by a quack.

He said an additional medical team that was rushed to the village to assess the situation advised people to take preventive measures to prevent further spread of the disease.

The ADMO ruled out an epidemic-like situation anywhere in the district although a few sporadic cases of diarrhoea were reported from several villages. Mobile medical teams have been deployed at different places, he said.

He said a two member Central medical team with public health experts toured the areas affected by the cyclone and floods.
