In a bid to woo the labour class, the Biju BJD on Friday announced formation of a trade union wing ‘Biju Shramik Sammukhya’ (BSS).
The new wing would be headed by former MlA Rajendra Prasad Singh.
BJD spokesperson Surjya Narayan Patro said, “The BSS would work towards the overall development of the labour class in the State. It would undertake several programmes for upliftment and welfare of the labourers across the State,” said Patro.
Patro informed that that the BSS would have 10 vice-presidents, 21 secretaries, five advisors and one treasurer.
The BSS would have the Bhandari Pokhari MlA Prafulla Samal as its working president and Subhash Singh as the General Secretary.
Interestingly, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, who was under the scanner for the murder of an engineering college student Rishi Mohanty and a sex video of him going viral on the net and the subsequent widespread protests, the BJD supremo has awarded him one of the vice president posts of BSS. This has raised many eyebrows.
